About Laura French

English was Laura French's third choice for a major, after theater and French.  Eventually, she completed three degrees in it, and has used it as the basis for seven or eight careers.

Career #1, as an editor for a children's book company, was also her first experience as a writer.  Careers # 2 through 4 were in sales promotion, marketing communication, and public relations writing.  She then spent a decade out of the business world, teaching composition, literature, and mass communications at the college level.  Returning to the Twin Cities, she worked in employee communications, then spent another decade as a communications consultant, largely on information technology initiatives.

Laura has continued to write for publication:  Children's books, travel writing, and a range of freelance projects for the Star Tribune, Twin Cities Luxury and Fashion, and other publications.

Most recently, she has been volunteering as a teacher of English as a Second Language.  Her students are Russian immigrants who teach her far more than she teaches them.

In addition to the degrees in English literature, Laura completed a Master of Arts in Religious Studies at United Theological Seminary in New Brighton.  Her on-going religious studies currently include courses at the Hedgerow Initiative of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in St. Paul and participation at Temple Israel in Minneapolis.

She serves as staff to three cats:  Tennessee Tuxedo, his pal Chumley and Gracie.  She is walked daily by her dog, Sofia.
